Five Ideas for a Healthier Home
January 22, 2018
With a new year comes a fresh opportunity to once again set new goals, break old habits and create better habits for ourselves in the form of New Year’s resolutions. Coming on the heels of the holidays and all the food and stress and more food, it’s no surprise that the majority of resolutions are aimed at improving health. With that in mind, we have five tips for making your home a healthier place and might even help you achieve those New Year’s resolutions for a healthier you.
Our first suggestion is to declutter your house. This may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of ways of making your home healthier. But as most people know, over time we accumulate more and more stuff but don’t always get rid of things we no longer use or need. Cleaning out closets and cabinets and throwing out or donating old clothes, toys, and other objects can make it easier to stay organized and clean. Reducing your clutter can reduce stress, which makes for a healthier environment.
Another idea to improve your health and wellness at home is get a good night’s sleep. Lack of sleep or fitful sleep can lead to health problems, so your bedroom should be as conducive peaceful sleep as possible. And one way to do that is to get rid of the screens in bed. TVs, laptops, iPads and smart phones can be a big distraction before sleep, so many experts recommend keeping computers or phones in another room or far away from your bed so you aren’t tempted to have some extra screen time when your body and mind would benefit more from a time out from the screens.
Another idea is to change the color of your rooms. Experts say warm colors like red or yellow are better for more socially active rooms, whereas cool colors like blue or green are better for rooms for relaxing like the bedroom. Similarly, adding plants to a room can help make your home less stressful as well. Plants can improve your mood, plus they are helpful in removing toxins from the air so you are breathing cleaner air.
Last but not least, having a healthy home means having a healthy bathroom. That’s why so many people – including a variety of health professionals like urologists, gynecologists and obstetricians – recommend adding a bidet toilet seat to your bathroom. We use water in other aspects of washing, so we should definitely be using water to wash after using the toilet. With the bidet toilet seats we carry at bidetsPLUS, it is an incredibly quick and simple process to add a bidet directly on your existing toilet.
